Book four of the writer/artist collective CLAMP's cult classic TOKYO BABYLON shojo manga series continues the adventures of the compassionate teenage onmyoji (medium) Subaru, his perky twin sister Hokuto, and Seishiro, a veterinarian who is actually an assassin using magic to commit his crimes. Subaru dissuades a woman from seeking magical revenge for her child's murder; but although he helps her find peace, he's horrified to learn that the child's spirit desires revenge as much as the woman does. In his second case, Subaru infiltrates a religious cult led by a powerfully charismatic woman, whose members are mainly misfit junior high and high school students. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Subaru, Seishiro persists in interfering with Subaru's clients and makes constant allusions to a bet he made with Subaru. What is this bet, and what are the consequences if Subaru loses? Printed in its original Japanese right-to-left orientation, the book has a full-color insert of the characters posed in lovely tableaux, as well as a glossary of the untranslated sound effects used.
